In 2011, Peter Van Buren published the book “We Meant Well: How I Helped Lose the Battle for the Hearts and Minds of the Iraqi People.” As a Foreign Service Officer, Van Buren spends 269 pages excoriating the US-led effort to provide to rebuild a society that the US knew almost nothing about.
